In today’s episode, I’m going to talk about 3 quick and effective ways to relieve anxiety so that you can experience a sense of peace in the midst of what you’re going through…
These are approaches that I use, and I’d love to hear what you think about them..
Now before getting into the solution?..
I want to define what we’re talking about here.
What exactly is anxiety?
And I found a simple and accurate definition on healthline.com which states..
“Anxiety is your body’s natural response to stress. It’s a feeling of fear or apprehension about what’s to come. The first day of school, going to a job interview, or giving a speech may cause most people to feel fearful and nervous.
But if your feelings of anxiety are extreme, last for longer than six months, and are interfering with your life, you may have an anxiety disorder.”
So what this suggests is that anxiety is a natural stress response that happens within that stems from your apprehension about what might or might not happen in the future.
And that’s fair..
We’re living in a time when change is happening so rapidly that it’s hard to keep pace..
People are getting fired and losing jobs every day because we hear it in the news.
Entire departments or teams are getting laid off.
And there’s this constant worry that someone might replace you at work or that you might get laid off.
There’s an apprehension that robots and Artificial intelligence might take over people’s jobs…
Kids are getting more and more burdened these days with assignments and work, and if that’s not enough, bullying is now taking place on social media!
And for entrepreneurs and business owners, it’s not easy either.
Because of the democratization of the internet, it’s never been easier for newer companies to enter the market and compete for business…
And guess what this means?…
Increased competition and a sense of uncertainty about whether things will turn out as planned…
And this increased pace of technology?
Is having an affect on our lifestyles, our waking cycles, our diet and our interaction with nature…
Leading to more stress!
So I don’t blame you.
It’s not your fault.
You have every reason to feel anxious and worry about the things that you’re worrying about that might or might not happen in the near future…
But the question is…
Is this level of anxiety is doing you any good?
And it’s not just the level of anxiety but the chronic nature of anxiety that’s really bad for your health and happiness..
I’ve done numerous interviews on my show My Seven Chakras, and what I’ve discovered is that there’s an evolutionary benefit of anxiety.
You see back in the days of our ancestors?
We had real reasons to worry about the future!
- Being ambushed by a saber tooth tiger…
- Not being able a water source..
- Being attacked by another tribe who wants to take over food supply…
In such a circumstance, it was reasonable for you to feel anxious, so that you could quickly come up with a solution to survive.
And as soon as that dark phase would pass?..
Your mind would come back to normal again..
And things would be fine.
And the anxiety would dissolve.
But these days?…
Because the stimuli is always there….
We don’t just experience anxiety…
but chronic anxiety.
Whether it’s the news reminding us about the bad economy…
Or your manager whose always at your heels about your sales target…
Or it’s your coworkers who’ve made your job a living nightmare,
(so much so that you’re always worrying about how things might turn out at work the next day)..
This type of chronic anxiety puts an immense pressure on your mind and body…
And guess what?..
This leads to numerous chronic health issues and even disease.
Here’s how I deal with anxiety.
We’re going to work on our more emotional chakras in our body, starting with the 3rd eye chakra, then moving down to our Heart chakra…
The first technique is a yogic technique called Nadi Shodana or alternative nostril breathing…
The way you do it is very simple…
Close your eyes….
And let go of any tension that you might be holding in your back and torso.
Then with your right hand thumb, block your right nostril and take a deep breath from you left nostril so that the air fills your lungs and goes all the way down to your diaphragm.
Remember, not to breath through your mouth..
Then, with your first two fingers, press down on your left nostril and let go of your thumb from your right nostril.
Breath out from your right nostril and let out all your stress, worry and anxiety with the air.
With the same position, inhale deeply with your right nostril, keeping the mouth closed, till your chest is filled with the cool, life giving oxygen.
And guess what you’ll do next?
Use your thumb to block your right nostril, so that you can let out all the air from your left nostril.
Keeping alternating your breathing between nostrils for about 7-8 minutes…
And I’m so sure that you’ll feel much lighter, calmer and relaxed after it.
You can’t help but coming back to the present moment after this quick exercise.
The next technique is a Yogic sound healing technique using a specific tone to heal your heart chakra…
You see, our chakras are energetic organs and very much a part of our being…
And since they’re constantly spinning at a very high frequency?..
They not only emit a light but they also emit a sound,
(Although the sound and light are not perceptible to the untrained person)..
When you feel stressed out, anxious and worried?..
Your heart chakra is usually out of tune with it’s natural, healthy and harmonious sound.
Just like you would spend some time to tune your piano or guitar, it makes sense to sound the corresponding mantra of the heart, to attune your heart chakra back to it’s natural rhythm.
Does that make sense?..
The Heart chakra mantra is the tone – Yum….
Pronounced as …. Yuuuuuum..
And that’s exactly what I encourage you to sound for about 3-4 minutes…
Once again, notice just how you feel after you complete this experience…
You’re going to feel purified and in-tune….
And most importantly?..
You’ll be focused on the present moment.
And finally, I always love doing some journaling…
Not journaling on your phone..
But on real paper using free hand writing.
Journaling like this has a way of bringing you back to the present moment, so that you can focus on the ink, on the texture of the paper and the up and down of your pen as you write.
When you’re experiencing anxiety, there’s usually a narrative that’s playing in our heads, which in most cases, isn’t really realistic…
Your mind is really creative and imaginative….
which in this case, leads to a lot of stress and worry…
There’s a lot of might be, could be and what ifs….
And all of those scenarios aren’t really worth your peace of mind and energy.
Open your journal and turn to a fresh, blank page…
And write down exactly..
- Why you’re anxious..
- What are you worried about..
- What do feel might happen….
Here are some more questions that might help…
- Are you in really in mortal danger? (In most cases, it’s a NO)..
- Are you the only person facing this issue? (It’s likely that someone else in your place has overcome this very situation. If someone else has overcome this, then so can you!)
My favorite two questions to journal about…
What’s the worst thing that could happen?
Write your heart out over here, so that you really estimate the extent of this challenge or difficulty on paper.
And the question I really love?..
What’s the best thing that could happen?
This is something that we often fail to consider…
Our reptilian brain always worries about our safety and security, and wants to keep us out of danger..
But the truth is there’s a good chance that things might really work you way…
There’s a good chance that you might not only overcome this situation but come out with flying colors.
Think about it!
What’s the best thing that could happen!
Because I promise you that things aren’t as bad as they might seem in your mind.
There’s always a way out.
And you’re stronger than this!
So there you go Action tribe…
